WHAT HAPPENED TO "ASILOMAR"?

The Northern California and Pacific Southwest chapters take turns hosting the annual California conference. Because the conference had been held for more than 20 years at the Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove, the conference became known as "Asilomar."

Although incomparable in beauty, getting to Asilomar requires more travel time than some AMWA members (and potential speakers) feel they can take. What if we could have the best of both worlds - find a beautiful spot that is more accessible and hold the "Asilomar Conference" there once in a while? Secluded on San Francisco Bay, across from Golden Gate Bridge and at the edge of parkland, the Berkeley Marina answers the needs of members seeking a peaceful but intellectually stimulating retreat and those requesting a more accessible conference.

In keeping with the Asilomar tradition, this retreat emphasizes lively discussion of issues as well as networking and making friends. Having meals together affords a chance to talk over your ideas, exchange points of view, take stock, and gain insights from colleagues whose experience and concerns relate to your own.

As of 2003, the Pacific Southwest chapter was dedicated to continue holding the conference at Asilomar when they host the conference in the alternative (odd-numbered) years. For more information on Asilomar conferences, see the Pacific Southwest chapter website and our own member review of the Asilomar 2003.
